  1. Links from most content curating tools are usually nofollowed. So i don’t think that it directly helps SEO. But i believe that in terms of traffic, these tools have great potential.

I’m not sure if the backlinks created from these sites really help SEO or not and it takes quite much hard work to get continuous visitors using content curating tools. I would rather like to work hard to create direct backlinks.

But surely these tools can help us promote contents and can be utilized for content marketing which might bring some powerful backlinks depending on the quality of your contents.

    1. No Follow links do have value in terms of Citation. While they do not offer link juice a link from a site that has good reputation does carry value. For example, if tech crunch, mashable and life hacker link to my blog with a no follow link, then Google will offer considerable value to those links. I do agree with you on the part that they do help drive traffic and contribute to content curation.

    2. My SEO experiments tell otherwise. Nofollow links on reputable websites do boost search rankings DIRECTLY. By reputable, I mean sites like Yahoo! and CNN.

This is a good read but personally I wouldn’t spend time on or other similar sites UNLESS it is bringing in fresh targeted traffic. There are easier ways to make a link profile looks naturally (if that’s your objective), curating content on doesn’t seem like an efficient one to me.

  2. If you’re talking about pure SEO value, it’s probable that a natural backlink profile would contain a good smattering of no follow links, in other words if all your links pass value this is going to look spammy and unnatural.

Justin – exactly. We need to build links that are both natural and a combination. Google, is very clever in coming up with algorithms updates to attack sites that are gaming the system. Its always a good thing to build natural links even if they are no follow.

Love the ranking power of curating at – It’s been one of the most powerful stealth traffic referrers as an excellent Parasite/Barnacle site. If Google doesn’t rank your content well, your Scoops will often make it into the Top 20 of SERPS.

I enjoy too – especially it’s notification of new editions sent to Twitter automatically. I don’t see it showing up in my web stats as a referrer, but it can help to get new content crawled quickly.

Here’s some excellent tips I wrote to really maximize your account and content curation at – – Like Pinterest, it’s best to set up a couple of boards. Oh and MODIFY your Scoop post Title slightly to target different keywords from your original post – great for leveraging long-tail rankings!
